A great many individuals think that a betta is perfectly acceptable for the tiny bowl they are usually purchased and exhibited in at the pet shop, but that is not the case.  The majority fish  such as bettas enjoy swimming, so providing them room to do so makes them a content and in the end healthier fish. You need guarantee that you get a tank that gives them enough room to do this so no part of the fish should be able to contact the sides, top or floor of the fish tank when the fish is still. You may notice that this is not the situation in the small bowls they are sold in.

Most bettas do well in a fish tank that is around 1 or 2 gallons as this size is fine for a lone fish because it is large enough for your betta to swim around. It is still easy to look after when it comes time to exchange the tank water and maintain the tank.  You also need to make sure here is enough room for you to be able to include ornaments, a filter or anything else you may want to make your betta fish aquarium ideal for your betta.  A filter will permit you to make less drastic adjustments to the water as it helps to clean out any detritus in the aquarium and keeps the water moving about. This does not do away with the need to exchange the water on a regular basis.

You may want to consider model houses,  vegetation or little retreats to give  the fish points to conceal hemselves which is especially important if you have companions for your betta such as a female betta, for instance.  Small stones and small simple to move rocks are fantastic additions to your betta fish tank as they permit the betta to make places for their young which they will do even if there is no female in the tank. If you are expecting to obtain a betta having, a tank that works for them is the best way to ensure the health of your betta. You will need to ensure that the betta also has a light on the aquarium in case you need to high temperature up the water.

Bettas able to be kept in small containers because they are able to breathe air, like humans, as well as water. Keep the water between 70 and 80 degrees, and don’t let the temperature modify too quickly. Keep the bowl away from appliances that produce a lot of heat.

IMPORTANT BETTA FISH CARE: Only ONE betta per bowl! They’re called “fighting fish” for a reason. They are highly territorial animals and will react violently if two are placed in the same container. You could look the preliminary phase of their fighting, the threat display, if you put a mirror up against the bowl. Notice the raised gill covers, which makes the betta look bigger.

Change the water in the bowl when it starts to look cloudy, about once a week. Let the water age at least 24 hours, to release some of the chemicals. After transfering the betta to a container (with either the old water or the water you’re going to use) clean the bowl with mild soap, and rinse thoroughly. Also rinse any decorations (rocks, shells, plastic plants, etc.) before filling the bowl with the aged water, and releasing your Siamese fighting fish.

The pet store where you bought your betta will have food as well, probably freeze-dried blood worms. Feed your Siamese fighting fish two or three times a day, only what he will eat in a couple of minutes. Overfeeding will make the water cloud faster, and your betta will be more likely to get ill.

One last note: pet stores usually don’t carry female bettas, because they tend to be less colorful and showy than the males. Also, individuals are usually just looking for a nice pet, not a breeding hobby. If this is your intention, then I suggest doing some dangerous research before you start!
