If you’re serious about keeping these fish then you need to cognize how to take concern of betta fish is important if you are planning on keeping bettas or intend to breed them. Betta fish are one of the best of the tropical fish to look after but they do have many particular needs that could easily be met with a few simple additions. The first thing to do is to organize the needed equipment. If you are seeking betta only for the purpose of reproduction you are going to require different equipment than if you were seeking bettas just for the purpose of having a exquisite addition to your house as well as family.

If you are looking for the intention of merely savoring bettas in your home, bear in mind that male bettas, and in some cases female bettas, do not almost always get along with one another or with a number of other maine creatures so you’ll must have distinct tanks for for each one of your fish. Bettas do not call for a large amount of space but they do require adequate space to move around comfortably in the aquarium. So in fact there should be adequate space for the fish to swim up, to the bottom and to all the edges without their fins touching the sides of aquarium.

In learning how to keep a betta fish, you will look the choice of whether or not to use living flora or use artificial plants. Vegitation is not essential but it does help to give the bettas a more well-fixed habitat, of the two plant varieties live plants are better than synthetic flora because they give a lot of benefits in addition to being better for the bettas. They do however, need to be quarantined before being situated in the tank. Small stones is not required, but does give the bettas bits and pieces to play around with when creating nests.

One other thing to think about is the fish food that you will be providing the betta that you bring home. This could be live fish food, frozen, freeze dried or in the shape of shots and flecks. There are a few betta that will reject anything but fresh fish food and there are others who will not touch live food, so introducing a bit of both will give you a quick overview of what your betta wants. When learning how to keep betta fish you will have to learn about the assorted illnesses that your betta could be faced with, how to known the diseases and what you ought do to make your betta well again should it become unwell.

It is also important to guarantee that the water is kept clean and fresh, live plants can help with this, and so can filters. Ensuring that you can scoop out any untouched food before it has a chance to drop to the bottom of the aquarium of the aquarium and foul the water will also help to provide a safe and fit environment for your betta.

The thought of having a dozen of brilliantly colored fish swimming gracefully at one corner of your house may be a welcoming thought for many, but it is important to realize that it comes with the huge obligation of keeping it clean as well as well maintained. Your collection of aquatic life will not survive for long without this. The proper daily, weekly and four weekly care is important to keep them alive and happy.

The Daily Cleaning Regimen

There are some necessary daily steps to preserve a clean aquarium. Check to see if the temperature is consistent due to this is the first step to great care habit for your fish tank. For tropical freshwater fish, the ideal temperature for them is somewhere around 77 degrees. Check daily for any signs of sick fish or dead fish. withdraw any sick fish from the tank or it will harm the different inhabitants and check to see if the pump and filters are working well.

Weekly Upkeep

Remember to do your weekly upkeep as well. To get rid of completely contamination from the bottom of the tank, use a siphon tube. If water is taken out be sure to replace it promptly. You need to add chlorine and chemicals Each Week to ensure water levels are maintained. Test for ammonia and nitrate Weekly – remember to test the water pH level as well. If you have live plants, they need weekly care. If it gets large, trim them down, then remove any unwell or dead leaves. See if here are water snails present because generally they aren’t wanted. Use a piece of lettuce to draw out the snails in the tank – the water snails will attach themselves to the leaf and you able to withdraw them safely and easily.

The Four Weekly Cleaning Routine

What are the four weekly care and upkeep procedures for the aquarium? The first thing you need to do is partial water change! Remember, twenty to twenty five percent of the water needs to be removed using a siphon hose. It is fundamental to sustain the chemical equilibrium in the water. Should the level of chlorine or ammonia becomes too high, the fish will die. The four weekly care includes cleaning the filter and the cartridge be exchanged as well. So do not clean them too well! Try to get rid of as much algae as possible from the aquarium and may be an algae eater will be a good addition to the tank.

Check out for sources of warmth near the aquarium. Increased high temperature document will speed up algae growth in the tank. The tank could be moved to a different area if too much heat is present in the current location. maintain the determined schedule to ensure that your fish tank stays clean and presentable. Aquarium care needs time and effort. Keep your tank clean and well maintained and your aquatic friends will thank you for it.

When you think about it, having the proper betta fish fish tank’s essential as it’ll be the home of your betta as well as it must be created and conserved in order to guarantee it has the best kind of surroundings to swim around in. There are a couple of things that you should think about when considering a early home for your betta, the basic one is that it is the proper size. Second you are going to wish to choose decorations that are going to be appealing to the betta that are going into your aquarium which is especially important if you are putting a breeding pair together. Third, you are going to must consider the option of a filter as well as the option of having other companions for your betta such as an apple snail.

A great many individuals think that a betta is perfectly acceptable for the tiny bowl they are usually purchased and exhibited in at the pet shop, but that is not the case. The majority fish such as bettas enjoy swimming, so providing them room to do so makes them a content and in the end healthier fish. You need guarantee that you get a tank that gives them enough room to do this so no part of the fish should be able to contact the sides, top or floor of the fish tank when the fish is still. You may notice that this is not the situation in the small bowls they are sold in.

Most bettas do well in a fish tank that is around 1 or 2 gallons as this size is fine for a lone fish because it is large enough for your betta to swim around. It is still easy to look after when it comes time to exchange the tank water and maintain the tank. You also need to make sure here is enough room for you to be able to include ornaments, a filter or anything else you may want to make your betta fish aquarium ideal for your betta. A filter will permit you to make less drastic adjustments to the water as it helps to clean out any detritus in the aquarium and keeps the water moving about. This does not do away with the need to exchange the water on a regular basis.

You may want to consider model houses, vegetation or little retreats to give the fish points to conceal hemselves which is especially important if you have companions for your betta such as a female betta, for instance. Small stones and small simple to move rocks are fantastic additions to your betta fish tank as they permit the betta to make places for their young which they will do even if there is no female in the tank. If you are expecting to obtain a betta having, a tank that works for them is the best way to ensure the health of your betta. You will need to ensure that the betta also has a light on the aquarium in case you need to high temperature up the water.

Female betta fish just because they are not as attractive as the male cannot be ignored. Female betta fish when compared to the male metta fish are less vibrant in colors. Very rarely you can find female betta fish being as colorful as male but not having the flowing large fins. When compared to the male, female betta fish are more tolerant towards different female betta fishes as they are raised in tanks together. This makes the female betta fish more tolerant towards other female betta fish.

Though they are more tolerant than the male, the female betta fish do fight when initially combined with other female betta fishes in a single tank. The natural tendency of being territorial make female betta fish fight with other females initially which most often does not cause serious damage.

It’s advised that one should not keep less than 4 female betta fishes in a tank. Four as well as more than four female betta fishes make a hierarchy and they do not fight with other. If you add just two female betta fishes, then they tend to fight with every other and hurt each other.
To keep 4 to 6 female betta fishes, it is advised to have a tank of 10 gallons size wtih plenty of hiding places with plants and rocks. This provides enough place to hide for female betta fish. When you add 4 to 6 fishes in a tank, these female betta fish creates a hierarchy and there will be an alpha female betta fish. To avoid any serious fight between these female betta fish, it is advised that to keep enough place in the tank wtih great hiding places and enough food to all of them.
Beta fish are many of the beautiful fish you able to have. In their natural habitat betta fish live in dirty as well as cloudy water and survive due to the beta fish can breath air directly through an organ situated on the head called labyrinth organ. Once you have decided to get a new family member a beautiful long flowing finned, brilliantly colored betta fish, please go through the additional tips.

1. Once you select a new betta fish to be your fish, though the beta fish can live in a small bowl, it will be a nice idea to bring in a bigger bowel or a tank of 1 gallon. See that it tank is not large and you have difficultly finding the betta fish hiding in some corner. Betta fish care additional tip #1 buy a reasonable sized bowl or tank, so you don’t feel that you are torturing your new beta fish.

2. If you buy a bigger tank or bowl for your betta fish, you can modify three-fourth of the water in your betta fish bowl or tank and instead of cleaning the bowl every week you can clean it once in a month. Betta fish care additional tip #2, change three-fourth of the water once every week and clean the betta fish tank once every month.

3. Make sure that you add tank accessories to the tank to make it a home to your betta fish. Make sure that the accessories you add are soft as the beta fish long flowing fins might get teared. Betta fish care additional tip #3, add accessories to may the bowl a home to your betta fish and make sure you add soft accessories.

4. Make sure you cover the tank properly, else the betta fish may jump out and fall to die like it happened with my first betta. Betta fish care additional tip #4 cover the tank.

5. Make sure to place the bowl somewhere in the room where it is easily for you to look it, after all it is there to enhance the beauty of your home. Beta fish care additional tip #5, arrange the bowl somewhere in the room where you can watch your beta fish regularly.

lifespan of a betta fish is about three years. Yet they able to live up to five years. That would be about the maximum betta life expectancy however.
The betta fish you see in stores are already adults as well as at least six months to a year old. A good breeding background and good health when the fish is bought will probably mean a long life. You could keep the fish in good health with a good environment, diet, and medications.
Good environment starts with an adequate sized living space. Those tiny little grapefruit sized bowls do not count. And you should give fresh water modifies so insure a long beta fish life expectancy.

These exotic beauties can do quite well on a mixture of high quality betta pellets or different food designed for bettas. For instance Hikari Betta Gold. (if your betta doesn’t have any water filtration then Hikari Betta Bio Gold) Plus many live food thrown in for variety a couple two three times a week along with frozen or freeze dried treats. Not only will proper diet help them lead long healthy lives, it will enhance the coloration of your bettas too.
Do that and use the bare minimum of aquarium salts and you won’t need much info on medications. Since most diseases that strike bettas are related to poor water quality. And treating with any medication induces stress. Meaning the best rule of thumb there is “He or she who medicates least medicates best.
After goldfish, the Betta fish is probably the second most popular fish kept. The Betta Splendens is a favorite because of its beauty, its long fins and because they are relatively easy to care for. The males sport deep beautiful colors whereas the females are less colorful.
It is called the Siamese Fighting Fish because of its behavior towards other males of the same species. You cannot keep two or more males in the same tank. If more than one male betta fish are placed in the same tank, they will fight until only one of them remains. They will flare out their gill covers and erect their fins showing the other fish their fighting posture.

There are ways to see this behaviour without introducing another male. One way is to use a small hand mirror and place it up against the tank glass so that the male betta may see his reflection. He will mistake his reflection as another male and the betta fighting posture should then be displayed.

You can get small betta tanks that come with dividers which will allow you to keep two bettas in the same tank. Many keep them in small bowls and they may live for a while in these small bowls. However, to get the most beautiful colors and optimal health for your fish, they will do better in a 10 gallon or larger tank with a heater that can maintain a constant temperature in the aquarium. If you plan on keeping yours in a small tank, please read the small tank setup page for ideas on equipment needed. Also check out the Betta Tank Setup article written by COBC for the magazine that lists the equipment needed to keep a betta.

Sure everyone loves Goldfish but there are a similar type of highly colored and active fish that are just as well-to-do to concern for. I’m talking about Betta fish, known as Siamese Fighting Fish. Hailing from the Mekong river in Asia these beautiful fish usually grow to about 6cm in length although some may reach 8cm’s or more. One little known fact is that their natural color is actually a dark green and brown. We see the bright colored ones today simply because of selective breeding by breeders from around the world.

Betta fish are very easy to care for and this makes them a great choice for people who have busy lifestyles and wish to keep pet fish. Below are seven hot tips to keep your Betta fish in tip top shape.

Number 1 – Simple Monitoring

After you’ve had your Betta fish for a while you will soon known their behaviors and activities. You will soon be able to see if your Betta fish are poorly. If your fish seem lethargic measure the temperature of the water. Too cold and your fish will seem listless. The ideal water temperature should be about 28 degrees centigrade (approximately 82 Fahrenheit).

Number 2 – Keep The Water Clean

This may sound obvious to some but your Betta fish need clean water. You shouldn’t need a water filter but try to substitute at least a quarter of the tanks water twice a week. This will insure that it stays nice and clean and will help to keep away any infections. Try not to use water straight out of the cold tap but leave it out for a day at least to let it settle. Be sure to use a PH testing kit (you able to get these from your favorite pet store) and try to keep the PH at around 7.0.

Number 3 – Size Matters!

When choosing a tank make sure it will be large enough for your Betta fish to swim around comfortably. A 20 litre tank is ideal. Sharp rocks and stones should be avoided. You don’t want your pride and joy to rip or tear any of his/her fins.

Number 4 – Keep A Lid On It

Betta fish like to jump! Knowing this try to keep the water level approximately 6 centimetres below the top of your tank. This, along with the lid, should stop your fish flipping themselves onto the table for your cat to find. DO NOT use an air tight lid! Bettas could take oxygen direct from the waters surface so make sure there are good air holes in the lid.

Number Five – Fish Need Friends Too

It is a wise idea never to keep other Betta fish in the same tank. They are not called Siamese fighting fish for nothing! Try not to keep mirrors or shiny surfaces near the tank as they will flare up at the slightest sign of another Betta, even if it’s themselves. Male Bettas tend to be the worst for this type of behavior. It may be fun to watch but completely you will do is stress your fish and decrease its lifespan. You can keep other fish with your Bettas. Loaches, platies (or moons) and Cory catfish are ideal tankmates.

Number 6 – Cleaning

Never (and we mean never) use soap or detergents to clean out your fish tank. Simply use a plastic brush and warm water to scrub any rocks or decorations you may have. To remove any old food from the bottom of the tank try using a pipette or a kitchen baster. This will ensure your tank stays nice and fresh and does not smell.

Number 7 – Food

Your Betta fish will absolutely love live food e.g. brine shrimp or bloodworms. Feeding them live food will keep them active and it is great fun to watch them gobbling them all up. For variety try feeding them on thinly chopped vegetables like broccoli, carrots and soybeans. They will enjoy these just as much as live food. Feeding your Bettas on a wider range of food will help them to live longer.
Do this and your Betta fishes’ll thank you for bringing them home.
One of the secrets to raising strong and healthy Betta fishes’s bathing them in tea made from Indian Almond leaves.

The leaves known as Ketapang or wild almond leaves in many places, comes from a tree known to produce a chemical that defends itself against insects and parasites. When the dried leaves is soaked in water, a strong brown dye is given off. The dye contains organic acids humic and tannins. The water which is darken to a yellowish brown (tea-like color) after a couple of days, is very similar to your Betta fishes’ natural habitat and they will love you for it.

Humic and tannins from the Indian almond leaves lowers the pH of the water, absorbs harmful chemicals and help create a soothing and calm environment for the fish. I use the leaves to help settle my Betta fishes everytime I bring them home from the pet shop, which able to be quite a traumatic journey for the fishes. Even Bettas can get ’sea sick’ sometimes … you will cognize it when their body turn pale and rest on the tank floor completely the time.

The leaves can also be used to treat bacteria infection and help the Bettas recover from injuries. Some people have used it to increase breeding frequency. The first time I discovered the healing qualities of the leaves was when one of my Betta won’t eat for a few days after I brought it home. Then a friend recommended I put a square inch of the leaf into the tank and let it soak overnight. The next day, my Betta was sucking the blood worms like there is no tomorrow!

To use the Indian almond leaves, I would recommend one palm size leaf to 10 gallons of water. Soak the leaf overnight in the water and you will see the water turn brownish the next day. If you are helping your Betta fish recover from sickness, then cut one small piece of the leaf and leave it in the tank for a week.
