514 6 Betta Fish Care: Plant CareDo not use any plants except the natural water plants that are not toxic to the fish. The plants’ roots grow down into the water as well as absorbs small amounts of waste produced by the betta fish. The plant also produces oxygen into the air. If the plants’ root grows large or becomes brown and soggy, you might cut them back. If the plant becomes too massive at the top (leaves) you may separate the plant and plant that part of the plant that is not being used. One of the best water plant to use is the Chinese Evergreen, it tolerates low lighting and it’s a hydroponic plant. Note: Our plants have been preconditioned, this procedure prepares the plant’s roots for aquatic adaptation.
